I’m a Brazilian student currently undertaking a Research Internship pursuing a M2 (second year French Master) in the program Mathematics of Data from the Math & Computer Science Graduate School at the University of Sorbonne Paris Nord, France, with the desire of further maturing my practical and theoretical perception of learning-based and data-driven methods, holding an excelence scholarship. As part of this formation, I was accepted to a 5-month research internship at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU-Erlangen), to develop research on Control and Machine Learning under the advisory of Enrique Zuazua, a major reference in the field.

In 2025, I obtained a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Data Science at the School of Applied Mathematics of Getulio Vargas Foundation (Brazil), carrying out studies on Optimal Control Theory. My main were Mathematical Epidemiology and Machine Learning. See my Master’s Monograph on Learning-Based MPC for Epidemic Mitigation under Uncertainty. In 2022, I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the same institution, after developing research in the areas of Natural Language Processing, Knowledge Representation, Ontologies and Textual Inference. I seek the deepening of technical and personal skills through the studies and discussion of topics related to mathematics, research and education, by participating and sharing in academic events, groups and studies. I’m also early searching for PhD Positions in my areas of interest. Research interests include:

Apr 01, 2026	I have just started a new position as Research Intern at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg as part of the Chair for Dynamics, Control, Machine Learning and Numerics – Alexander von Humboldt Professorship under the guidance of professor Enrique Zuazua, a major reference in the field; see my profile. In this position, I hope to further develop on the internconnections between the fields of Control Theory and Machine Learning.
Sep 14, 2025	This week I am participating in the 12th Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation in Germany! The event brings together major references and young researchers in Mathematics and Computer Science to discuss emerging topics in the field. This year, big names such as Richard Sutton and Jeffrey Dean, among other, will be participating!

My master’s monograph under the title “From uncontrolled to controlled predictions: a learning-based model predictive control framework with an state predictor for epidemic mitigation under dynamics and parametric uncertainty” was accepted by the board, so I’m officially a Master in Applied Mathematics and Data Science.

On the Utility of Word Embeddings for Enriching OpenWordNet-PT

The maintenance of wordnets and lexical knwoledge bases typically relies on time-consuming manual effort. In order to minimise this issue, we propose the exploitation of models of distributional semantics, namely word embeddings learned from corpora, in the automatic identification of relation instances missing in a wordnet. Analogy-solving methods are first used for learning a set of relations from analogy tests focused on each relation. Despite their low accuracy, we noted that a portion of the top-given answers are good suggestions of relation instances that could be included in the wordnet. This procedure is applied to the enrichment of OpenWordNet-PT, a public Portuguese wordnet. Relations are learned from data acquired from this resource, and illustrative examples are provided. Results are promising for accelerating the identification of missing relation instances, as we estimate that about 17% of the potential suggestions are good, a proportion that almost doubles if some are automatically invalidated.

Dessa forma, discutimos atualização de infra-estrutura junto a algumas iniciativas em que OWN-PT é empregada, com ênfase no uso de representações vetoriais para o aprendizado de novas relações semânticas.
